Here is our advice for those new to disc golf...
"For new disc golfers we recommend getting a putter and a midrange disc to begin playing - or even just a putter."
"But what's a putter and what's a midrange," you ask? There is plenty of information available online but we've provided an overview of the three basic types of disc below.
THE THREE TYPES OF DISCS
Just as there are different golf clubs for different shots in golf, there are three main disc types for disc golf.
PUTT & APPROACH DISCS -
BEST FOR BEGINNERS
These are the blunter, more round edged discs you will find in the shops. They are ideal for beginners because they are the easiest discs to throw. They fly slow but straight and deviate the least from the line the disc is thrown on.
MIDRANGE DISCS - BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE
These discs are sharper than putters but blunter than drivers. They will travel further than putters when thrown correctly but will deviate more from the line the disc is thrown on, requiring better control by the golfer.
DRIVER DISCS -
FOR ADVANCED PLAYERS
These are the sharp edged discs. They travel the furthest but only if they are thrown extremely fast by a competent golfer. They deviate the most from the line the disc is thrown on and therefore should be avoided by beginners.
